What are the Wales Arts International WOMEX 15 Bursaries?

Wales Arts International is offering support for a limited number of musicians and music professionals to attend WOMEX 15 in Budapest, Hungary. WOMEX is a key international world music showcase and trade event. Financial support will be offered to individuals who can prove that the opportunity to attend WOMEX could have a significant impact on their professional practice, music business or project and will, in turn, support the development of the world music sector and wider music industry in Wales.

Who should apply?

The Wales Arts International WOMEX 15 Bursary is targeted at musicians and music professionals based in Wales to support their attendance at WOMEX 15. The bursary package is supported by Cerdd Cymru Music Wales, the hosts of WOMEX 13 in Cardiff. The bursary includes a full delegate pass (worth 255 €) and a contribution of £300 towards travel and accommodation costs. It is unlikely that we will be able to offer more than one bursary to a group or an organisation, unless there is a compelling rationale.

You need to show evidence of your track record; your willingness to engage internationally; your approach and readiness to develop new markets; as well as the need for our support. Your application should also demonstrate a strong fit with one or more of the following criteria:

  • attending WOMEX 15 will provide a major opportunity for you to significantly enhance your own artistic practice, the artistic practice of those you represent or your own business development;
  • that you will act as an ambassador for the music industry in Wales at WOMEX 15;
  • that you will use the experience and knowledge gained from attending WOMEX 15 to help develop international networks for the World and Folk Music sector in Wales;
  • clear objectives for investing your time and resources (as well as our support) to attend WOMEX 15;
  • that you have no alternative means to fund your attendance, beyond a contribution of funding from your own resources.

We understand the value of sustaining a presence at a showcase event and, therefore, previous recipients of a WAI WOMEX bursary are welcome to apply. Please include in your application rationale for applying for another bursary, indicating how you will build upon previous visit(s).

When can I apply?

The application deadline is 5pm on Monday 27th of July 2015
