National Dance Company Wales tour to India : India

28 Nov 2011 - 07 Dec 2011

National Dance Company Wales

National Dance Company Wales' tour is co-produced with Madhu Nataraj, Founder & Director of STEM Dance Kkampni, Bangalore; Anita Ratnam in Chennai and the British Council.

The tour includes performances of B/olero & Black Milk by Ohad Naharin and By Singing Light by Stephen Petronio.

Ohad Naharin, one of the world’s great choreographers, presents B/olero, a hypnotic female duet with elegant costumes set to Ravel’s famous score while Black Milk is a ceremonial dance that encapsulates the tribal physicality of five male dancers.

Inspired by the poetry of Dylan Thomas, Petronio created By Singing Light, a profound dance response to the power of Thomas as an artist of international stature. Performed to the lyrical, yet driven music of Son Lux, influenced by the Welsh songs of Mansel Thomas, this is a moving dance from one of the world’s leading choreographers.

Each performance will be introduced by the Artistic Director. In addition ‘wrap around activities’ include workshops, master classes, symposium, photographic exhibitions and media opportunities.

A photography project in Bangalore sees National Dance Company Wales’ Roy Campbell-Moore working with Ramya Reddy (www.ramyareddy.com) from India. They will lead workshops with photography students, whilst also investigating each other’s practise. They will exhibit their work in a digital exhibition as part of the international festival in Bangalore, titled "Namma Bengaluru Dance Utsav".
