Wales Arts International and Llangollen International Eisteddfod launched the Music Encounters project on the Eisteddfod field in July 2009.
Llangollen International Eisteddfod provided management for the project which saw some of the Festival's adjudicators work with Welsh choral directors during the year, with the aim of improving choral directing in Wales.
The scheme was run by Wales Arts International, which works to promote knowledge about contemporary culture from Wales and encourage international exchange and collaboration.
Mervyn Cousins, Executive Director of Llangollen International Eisteddfod, said:
"Our involvement comes as part of the Festival's extended approach to outreach from Llangollen, using our immediate contacts as a conduit for development in Wales. We have worked closely with Wales Arts International and Arts Council of Wales in setting up the Music Encounters scheme and look forward to developing the project."
The initiative ran from July 2009 until the end March 2010. Llangollen International Eisteddfod provided three days of mentoring for choral music directors from Wales. The first stage included a preliminary day in the autumn with Eisteddfod Director, Mervyn Cousins and Choral Conductor, Peter Broadbent. This was followed by a two day event in March 2010, with international music directors who are adjudicators at the Eisteddfod.
The aim of the workshops were to develop the directing skills of Welsh choral conductors and improve their technical abilities, repertoire-specific understanding and appropriate networking, while providing national and international links.
Nick Capaldi, Chief Executive of Arts Council of Wales, said:
"We are delighted that Wales Arts International and Llangollen International Eisteddfod is supporting the Music Encounters scheme. Wales has a rich choral heritage and we hope the project will further develop the directing and conducting skills of talented Welsh choral conductors."
