Worlds largest LGBT short film prize announces opening and closing films

Organisers of the 2012 Iris Prize Festival have confirmed the opening and closing night films to be screened at the annual film festival. Iris is the only short film prize in the world which allows the winner to make a new film. It opens in Cardiff with the highly anticipated 'Yossi' by Eytan Fox, which received its word premier earlier in the year at the Tribeca Film Festival in New York. The film is a follow up to the award winning 'Yossi and Jagger' (2002) and picks up the story of Yossi as a middle aged doctor who is unable to move on following the death of his lover.

Iris closes with 'Codependent Lesbian Space Alien Seeks Same' which needs very little explanation! Written and directed by Iris Prize alumnus Madeleine Olnek the film is an unapologetic, tongue firmly in cheek, comedy spoof based in New York.

The festival will also include a screening of 'Little Man', the third film to be produced with the Iris Prize. The film is directed by 2009 Iris Prize winner Eldar Rapaport, who will be returning to Cardiff for the premiere as part of the closing night film celebrations. The film stars Daniel Boys who appears in his first film role playing Elliot - popular with the boys but incapable of forming a long lasting relationship.

The Iris Prize runs from the 10th - 14th of October. The full programme is now available.
