Arts Council of Wales / Wales Arts International hosted an international seminar in Cardiff and Rhondda Cynon Taf on 20-21st June 2012 exploring how young people participate in and present creative work.

Guests from Nord-Pas de Calais, Silesia, the French and Flemish communities of Belgium, Rogaland, Venice and Castilla-La Mancha exchanged experiences with delegates from Wales through open discussion and mixed workshops.

In particular, the seminar looked at:

  • Participation by young people in, and presentation of, creative work – looking in particular at structures for festivals in Rogaland, Norway as an example of how they engage young people in showcasing and decision making
  • Case studies of initiatives from Wales celebrating young people’s practice, participation in and access to the arts
  • The role that young people, professionals and mentors play, and the spaces young people have access to
  • International co-operation, networks and the wider European context

The two-day seminar and workshops gave participants – representatives from cultural organisations, artists, regional and local governments, young people- the opportunity to discuss these themes, learn about new initiatives and propose solutions to the challenges.
