EU Referendum and the triggering of Article 50

EU Referendum and the triggering of Article 50

As negotiations ensue, Arts Council of Wales will continue to promote the benefits to the arts of international exchange and collaboration. Artist mobility and future access to European networks will continue to be an important part of international working. And we will want to ensure that appropriate levels of financial investment exist in the future to enable artists and arts organisations to develop international markets and partnerships recognising the need for artists to be able to move in and out of Wales/across borders. We remain committed to our partnerships with the Welsh Government, British Council and our European collaborators.

As part of a devolved nation of the UK and a constituency of the European parliament, Wales has benefitted socially, economically and culturally from substantial European investment. Arts Council of Wales and its international arm, Wales Arts International, have participated in over two decades of international and European cultural partnerships and exchanges. Whatever the arrangements that apply in the future, we believe that international links will continue to be of great value to the arts in Wales.

In this respect, we are pleased to be hosting the general assembly of On the Move in Cardiff on the 6th and 7th of April. On the Move is a cultural mobility information network with more than 35 members in over 20 countries across Europe and beyond. Its mission is to encourage and facilitate cross-border mobility and cooperation, contributing to building up a vibrant and shared European cultural space that is strongly connected worldwide. (see www.on-the-move.org)

We will continue to find ways of supporting our leading artists and arts organisations to realise their international ambitions by exploring new markets, forging more partnerships and making sure that Wales continues to be an open and diverse nation.
