Announcing Wales as the national partner of English Folk Expo 2018

Today it was announced that Wales would be the national partner of English Folk Expo (EFEx) in 2018. With the support of Arts Council of Wales, Efex 2018 will focus on Welsh music. EFEx is a showcase event for English acoustic, roots and folk music. It will attract industry delegates from all over the world and will be held in Home, Manchester - an arts venue - and in several nearby locations in Manchester Folk Festival, which is the public face of EFEx.

Eluned Haf, the Head of Wales Arts International, Arts Council of Wales said:
"I’m delighted that Wales will be their national partner next year. I’d like to congratulate them for their success over the last 5 years. It’s a great opportunity for Welsh artists to grow their careers so near to home and in such a key market. This will be a chance to develop cross-boundary networks with festivals, presenters and musicians. This is a significant event in the industry which will support our work with Music Wales in partnership with trac and Theatr Mwldan. It’s a fantastic opportunity for Welsh artists to develop an international presence."

The event’s main aim is to help English artists gain opportunities to perform live all over the world. Every year they also have a national partner which this year is Prince Edward Island, with Flanders having had this honour in 2016 and Denmark in 2015. An independent survey by the hub concluded that EFEx generated over £2 million through artists being booked by the contacts that they made there.

Now an open call is being put out for submissions from Welsh artists who work in the field of traditional, acoustic and folk music from Wales to apply for a showcase opportunity in EFEx 2018 which will happen 18-21 October 2018. There are four places to be awarded. The successful artists will appear in Manchester Folk Festival in front of 180 festival and venue programmers, agents, members of the press and media and influential industry figures and members of the public from all over the world.

The event is a chance to see over forty artists over its three days with networking opportunities, a trade fair, label showcases and receptions.

Closing date for applications: 30 November 2017
