Davoren, Thomas

Saskatchewan Brass Band Residency

Thomas Davoren was invited to participate in the Saskatchewan Brass Band Residency, 5-9 August 2014 in Canada as a guest conductor, clinician at the residency and a featured composer. The event consisted of daily rehearsals, short performances, recitals, clinics, mini lectures, new music reading sessions and masterclasses that showcased many facets of brass band performance and composition, all in preparation for a final performance with a faculty comprising of guest soloists, composers and conductors.

Thomas identified three main areas of development for his professional practice through attending: Conducting; composition; and presenting music as a lecturer. All three areas were challenged and provided an opportunity to share knowledge of his own practice as well as learn from others taking part.

In closing, Thomas said: "It is with absolute certainty that I have gained valuable experience in terms of the development my practice, increased my professional profile, enhanced the quality of my work as a conductor and composer at home in Wales, and secured future work during the course of this project. None of this would have been possible without being present in Canada for the Saskatchewan Brass Band Residency."
