The Galleries at Ruthin Craft Centre are Wales' premier space for generating monograph and survey exhibitions by the very best contemporary applied artists from both Wales and beyond. Ruthin Craft Centre’s presence at events, such as SOFA and Collect, 11-14 May 2012, highlights this work on an International stage.
This was their first exhibition at SOFA New York but follows successful presentations at SOFA Chicago between 2003 and 2006.
Ruthin Craft Centre presented the work of Eleri Mills, working in textiles, who undertook a residency during February - April 2012 as Visiting Artist at Columbia University, New York, as part of her Creative Wales Ambassador role.
Also exhibited was Walter Keeler, working in ceramics, who carried out a month long tour of the US in March 2012 with lectures and demonstrations culminating at the NCECA conference in Seattle.
Ruthin Craft Centre continue to develop and expand their growing international audience of collectors, cultivate opportunities for makers to exhibit with other international galleries and to present the very best of contemporary Applied Art from Wales.
Developing Wales’ opportunities in USA
Delegates from Wales attending SOFA New York 2012 included representatives from three key galleries who exhibit and foster Craft & Applied Art in Wales: Mission Gallery, Oriel Myrddin and Oriel Mostyn. Wales Arts International produced a new overview guide to support the delegates’ networking activity, Craft in Wales.
