Date & time
25th & 26th August 2015 2.15pm & 4pm
An Invitation... is an alive and evolving work. It’s about connection, conversation, spontaneity and uncertainty. It’s also playful, joyous, imaginative, powerful and human. It is about us. We are the show. ‘Radical-witty and entertainingly thought-provoking.’ (Herald)
Based in Cardiff, Jo Fong is a director, choreographer and performer working in dance, film, theatre and the visual arts. As a dancer, her agility, curiosity and infectiously raw and rebellious spirit underpinned a highly distinguished career with major dance companies including Rosas, Rambert Dance Company, Mark Bruce Company and National Dance Theatre Wales. That ethos and passion carries through to her choreographic and directorial work which remains physical in essence but incorporates voice and text, and is not prejudiced against body type.
An Invitation… is a unique and complex work that blurs the boundaries of dance and challenges the conventions traditionally associated with the exchange between spectator and performer. Seated in an intimate traverse-style space that places the audience members in close proximity to each other, we are openly invited to study and appreciate the people around us; unaware that we will soon be plunged into uncertainty about the identities of the ‘real’ performers in the room and inadvertently start to contribute to the ever-evolving structure and content of this playful, spontaneous and unnerving production.
