Arts Council of Wales is calling for early-career artists, curators, writers, and creative producers to apply for Invigilator + 2026 — a unique international development opportunity forming part of Wales’ presence at the 61st International Art Exhibition – La Biennale di Venezia (9 May–22 November 2026).

Invigilator + is a flagship professional development opportunity from Arts Council of Wales, where individuals will play a key supporting role within the Cymru Yn Fenis/Wales in Venice 2026 team.

This year’s Cymru yn Fenis/Wales in Venice presentation will be an exciting partnership between the two artists Manon Awst, Dylan Huw their collaborators, as well as galleries Oriel Davies in Newtown and Oriel Myrddin in Carmarthen. Read the announcement here.

La Biennale di Venezia is the largest and most renowned visual arts exhibition in the world. Founded in 1895, it remains one of the most celebrated cultural events globally, attracting over 700,000 visitors to its 60th edition in 2024.

This funded programme offers selected participants the chance to live and work in Venice for at least one month, acting as ambassadors for the Wales in Venice exhibition.

Participants will engage with visitors, support the exhibition’s delivery, and immerse themselves in one of the world’s most dynamic art environments.

Invigilator + is designed to grow professional networks, develop creative practice, and build confidence in international cultural contexts

Eleven places are available through this open call, with additional positions recruited via university partners in Wales.

We’re looking for people with up to five years of professional experience, a passion for the visual arts in Wales, and strong communication skills. Formal education isn’t required — just commitment, curiosity, and a desire to connect Welsh art with global audiences.

Applications are particularly welcomed from underrepresented groups, including those who are global ethnic majority, disabled, LGBTQIA+, or from lower socio-economic backgrounds.

Successful applicants will receive a travel grant covering flights, accommodation, per diems, and Biennale access. Training will be provided ahead of the exhibition.

Application deadline: 10th December 2025, midday
