WAI is the international agency of the Arts Council of Wales.
We provide advice and support to artists and arts organisations from Wales who work internationally. We are a contact point for international artists, organisations and agencies working in or connecting with Wales.
Our purpose is to nurture Wales’ international artistic, creative and cultural potential in a way that is fair to people and the planet.
We participate in a number of key European networks that ensure we continue to build and strengthen our international relationships. We’re members of IETM, On the Move, Culture Action Europe and Res Artis.
If you are an artist working in Wales, we can provide advice, guidance and information through our events, social media platforms and our website. We offer support through the International Opportunities Fund and other strategic interventions such as bursaries for specific campaigns, like the Wales Japan Culture Fund.
If you’re an international artist looking to make connections in Wales, or an international promoter, agent or institution wanting to invite an artist or organisation from Wales to take part in your event or project, we can help point you in the right direction.
We are a strategic partner to the Welsh Government and the British Council and work in partnership with other cultural and government agencies in Wales and the UK.
Arts Council of Wales – International Strategy Framework 2024-2034
This international strategy is a ten-year framework for Arts Council of Wales international investments, led by our agency Wales Arts International (WAI).
It sets the strategic priorities for our international work aligned to a new cultural well-being evaluation framework, which is connected to Arts Council of Wales’ six corporate principles.
This will not be a static document but rather will evolve over the course of the next 10 years as the world and our work devolve and change.
We are happy to present this strategy at various events throughout 2025 for you to help us test the evaluation framework. If you’d like us to attend one of your events to discuss the strategy, please contact us on info@wai.org.uk.
