Marseilles is a lively port city in southern France with a history of over 2,600 years. Recently, it has become a thriving hub for hip hop culture, representing the dynamism of French rap. Marseilles’ hip hop emerged in the 1980s, reflecting the struggles and dreams of its multi-ethnic neighbourhoods. With its unique Mediterranean vibe and social awareness, it continues to inspire new generations of hip hop artists, making it a significant cultural centre in France and beyond.

Wales Arts International are supporting the research and development of a project around young people; a Hip hop and breaking collaboration between Cardiff and Marseilles, with Cardiff based Jukebox Collective.
