SYBS - SYBS are an explosive punk quartet from Cardiff. Right after the release of their single “Paid Gofyn Pam” (which will be performed at Suns Europe), they’ve been put under contract by Libertino Records, label and hotbed of the best Welsh talents. On the strength of a rare live energy, SYBS spent the past year on a seamless tour, in and out of Wales.
JUDITH MUSKER TURNER - Wales is also home to artist and poet Judith Musker Turner from Wales Arts International / Arts Council of Wales. The Welsh artist and the women’s collective “Sottane poetiche” (Poetic petticoats) have never met or known of each other before, but for years they have been carrying out the same project: sewing words and poems on their textile artworks. Their artworks will be displayed in Friuli during the festival. Together, they will also embroider a garment with Welsh and Friulian verses.
SUNS EUROPE - Next 30 November, from 09.00 PM, Teatro Nuovo Giovanni da Udine is ready to “tremble” under the notes of rock, punk, hard rock and psychedelia. But the main music event that closes the fifth edition of Suns Europe in Udin /Udine has also a touch of pop & soul, with bits of krautrock, cumbia, dub, rap, calypso and a cutting-edge combination of jazz and classical music. The Festival will host bands from Sardinia (Malasorti), the Basque Country (Mocker’s), Grisons (Mattiu Defuns), Faroe Islands (Son of Fortune), as well as artists from Galicia (Ataque Escampe), Occitania (Mauresca Fracas Dub), the Catalan Countries (Magalí Sare), and, lest to forget, Friuli (Silvia Michelotti).
THE FESTIVAL – Suns Europe is annually organised by Cooperativa Informazione Friulana, with the financial support of Regione Autonoma Friuli Venezia Giulia and ARLeF (Agjenzie Regjonâl pe Lenghe Furlane – Regional Agency for Friulian language), and the collaboration of other local and international organizations, such as Etxepare Euskal Institutua (the Basque Country), Secretaría Xeral de Política Lingüística - Xunta de Galicia (Galicia), Babel Film Festival (Sardinia), RTR (Grisons) and “Stichting REUR” (Netherlands). It deserves credit for making the city of Udine a crossroad of culture and artists where creativity and contamination intermingle to create a highly valuable production. Suns Europe festival organisers attended the National Eisteddfod of Wales in August 2019 on a programme organised by Wales Arts International, enabling the organisers to be immersed in Welsh Language culture during their visit.
