Nantes is a city in Loire-Atlantique and was the former capital of Brittany. It’s been twinned with Cardiff since February 24, 1964, but their connection goes back even further, with trade in coal and timber documented as early as 1729.

Nantes is the base for the creative company Les Machines De L’île, where you’ll find Le Grand Éléphant (The Great Elephant) created by François Delarozière as a symbol of the city’s artistic and engineering creativity.
